The Hoover Institution's Board of Overseers met on Monday, February 28, in Washington, DC. Invited guests heard remarks by Pulitzer Prize–winning syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer and Governor Chris Christie (NJ). Mark Steyn, a critic, syndicated columnist, and the author of the best-selling America Alone, made before-dinner remarks on the same day. On Tuesday, other matters of governance were discussed by the afternoon speakers: House majority leader Eric Cantor (R-VA), Congressman Paul Ryan (R-WI), and Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL). Michelle Rhee, founder and chief executive officer of StudentsFirst and former chancellor of the Washington, DC, public schools, examined issues confronting the country’s educational system.
