Robert Service, a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution, professor of Russian History at the University of Oxford (United Kingdom) and a noted Russian historian and political commentator, gave various talks in Estonia on May 26, 2011, including “How to Make Sense of Communism” as well as television and print media interviews on his books Comrades!: A History of World Communism and Trotsky: A Biography. On May 29, 2011, Service was interviewed by Mart Laar, former prime minister of Estonia at the Tallinn Literature Festival. Laar is one of the heroes of the struggle against the Estonian communist regime in the 1980s and was one of the world's youngest prime ministers (age 27) when he first became his country's leader.
