Commander Mike Wu, representing the US Coast Guard, is a national security affairs fellow for the 2025–26 academic year at the Hoover Institution.

Operationally, Commander Wu has conducted maritime safety and security, search and rescue, counternarcotics, and defense operations ranging from the Arctic to the equator, across the Nation, and throughout the Arabian Gulf. He has responded to calamities such as the Carnival Splendor fire, Deepwater Horizon oil spill, and Hurricane Harvey. In staff roles, he served as the chief speechwriter to the twentieth Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley, and the military assistant to the seventh Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas.

A native of San Mateo, CA, Commander Wu is a graduate of the US Coast Guard Academy and holds master’s degrees from the Herbert School of Business at the University of Miami and Sanford School of Public Policy at Duke University.
