The Hoover Institution hosted a public panel discussion "China In An Emerging World" on Monday, October 29, 2018 from 3:30pm - 5:00pm PST.

Even as its economy continues to grow, and it becomes a world leader in technology, China must also contend with an aging, unbalanced population and the information revolution. The discussion will examine China’s pursuit of next-generation technologies for economic, political, and military purposes as well as its changing demographics and widespread use—both by individuals and the government—of new means of communications.

Moderator: Admiral Gary Roughead (USN, ret.), Hoover Institution

Panelists:

  • J. Stapleton Roy, former US Ambassador to China
  • Maria Repnikova, Georgia State University
  • Nicholas Eberstadt, American Enterprise Institute
  • Kai-Fu Lee, Sinovation Ventures
  • Elsa Kania, Center for a New American Security

This event is open to the general public and is part of a series led by George P. Shultz whose intention is to learn from our changing world, to map our governance options in response, and to help structure a variety of efforts going forward.
