DOD-Academic Engagement on Cyber Policy | Call for Information

Mission Statement: To develop a concrete roadmap with actionable opportunities to implement DOD-academic cyber education and research collaboration in support of DOD’s cyber mission.  Secondarily, to build a corpus of knowledge about multidisciplinary academic programs in cyber for the benefit of students, other academic institutions, and the general public.
 

CALL FOR INFORMATION

The Hoover Institution and Hewlett Foundation are requesting a concise overview of each interested university’s multidisciplinary educational and research programs. These written overviews will serve as critical inputs to the workshop and a valuable (public) resource to help match DOD needs with university offerings.  These backgrounders will be placed online for both workshop and public access.

CORE PILLARS
 

1. Talent (max 750 words) – This section pertains to the educational programs offered by each university that could be used by DOD to address its talent needs.
 

Please list up to three multidisciplinary cybersecurity educational programs (i.e. degrees, course tracks, etc.) that your university offers. For each program, please include links and summarize the:
 

  • Disciplines covered & knowledge/skills imparted;
  • Curriculum structure and courses;
  • Core faculty and staff;
  • Student enrollment and demographic composition;
  • Employment statistics post-graduation;
  • Tuition costs; and,
  • Other salient attributes
     

2. Research (max 500 words) – This section captures the various research programs at each university that could be responsive to DOD policy research needs.
 

Please list up to three multidisciplinary (applied) cybersecurity research programs/ projects that your university offers. For each research program, please summarize:
 

  • Disciplines included;
  • Specific areas of focus;
  • Examples of published or ongoing research;
  • Core faculty/research team composition;
  • Connectively (if any) to the educational programs above;
  • Current sources of funding as well as overall funding needs’
  • Intended audience(s) and planned output; and,
  • Desired impact


3. Engagement (max 250 words) – This section captures how universities interact with key DOD stakeholders and otherwise seeks out innovative partnerships.
 

Please describe how your university currently engages with DOD and/or other national security agencies of the US government including but not limited to:
 

  • Hacking events (i.e. hackathons);
  • USG-focused recruiting events;
  • Policy competitions (i.e. Cyber 9/12, etc.);
  • Publications with DOD or in DOD journals or magazines;
  • Internships;
  • Fellowships; and
  • Joint faculty appointments
