Dr. Michael Mcfaul, research fellow at the Hoover Institution, has explanations and observations about the most recent shake up, and why dire predictions of "Cold War" style relations have not materialized given recent events in Iraq and NATO.

McFaul is an expert on Russian political and economic reform. He has followed Russian electoral behavior since 1990 and U.S. foreign policy in the post communist era. McFaul is the author of Russia Between Elections: What the 1995 Parliamentary Elections Really Mean (Washington, DC: Carnegie Endowment For International Peace, 1996), Explaining the 1996 Presidential Vote in Russia: Institutions, Strategy, and Revolutionary Voters (Post-Soviet Affairs, December 1996), A Precarious Piece: Domestic Politics in the Making of Russian Foreign Policy (International Security, Winter 1997-1998)
