Professor

Marking the centenary of the November 11, 1918 ceasefire that ended the First World War, Hoover senior fellow and Texas A&M history professor Elizabeth Cobbs (above, right) presented a poster from Hoover Archives to the Mayor of Chaumont, France, which hosted the headquarters of the American Expeditionary Forces. Cobbs is the author of The Hello Girls: America's First Women Soldiers (Harvard University Press, 2017), the first in-depth historical treatment of female telephone operators working on the Western Front during WWI. Dr. Cobbs' research has recently been featured in the film documentary The Hello Girls, released this year by Lincoln Penny Films. The poster presented at the Chaumont ceremony was one featured in Hoover's recent gallery exhibition Weapon on the Wall: American Posters of WWI.
