• This morning, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton apologized for a November attack by U.S. forces that left 24 Pakistani troops dead. In response, Pakistan has reopened supply routes into Afghanistan, a move which saves American taxpayers $100 million a month. The Obama Administration's change of approach on the incident comes on the heels of the DoD's reprogramming request to Congress that reported on the additional cost to the Pentagon to reroute supplies. Top foreign and defense policy analysts, including Hoover's Kori Schake writing here at AFS yesterday, brought attention to the DoD's reporting and to the budgetary and diplomatic costs of the Administration's unwillingness to apologize.
