Peter Berkowitz, The Tad and Dianne Taube Senior Fellow, Stanford University, Hoover Institution Wins 2017 Bradley Prize
Peter Berkowitz, a political scientist and the Tad and Diane Taube Senior Fellow at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution, is one of four recipients of the 2017 Bradley Prize. The honor recognizes individuals of extraordinary talent and dedication who have made contributions in areas consistent with the mission of The Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation.
The State Department Announces Peter Berkowitz, New Head of Policy Planning

Politics and Law Scholar Peter Berkowitz Examines the Politicization of the Laws of War in Israel and the Struggle over the International Laws of War (Hoover Institution Press)
Hoover Institution Press released Israel and the Struggle over the International Laws of War by Hoover senior fellow Peter Berkowitz. Berkowitz defends the international laws of war by exposing the flawed assumptions and defective claims that have gained currency from The Goldstone Report (2009 Report of the United Nations Fact Finding Mission) and the Gaza Flotilla controversy. In both instances, Berkowitz argues, accusations of unlawful conduct directed at Israel by official bodies of the United Nations, European states, Arab states, and Turkey that relied more on bluster and the determination to gain political advantage than on sound legal analysis. In both cases those accusations worked to criminalize not only Israel’s legitimate right of self-defense but all liberal democracies’ right to defend themselves against transnational terror.
Peter Berkowitz Appointed Director of the US Department of State Policy Planning Staff
In August 2019, Peter Berkowitz, the Tad and Dianne Taube Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University, was appointed director of the Policy Planning Staff in the office of US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. He previously served as a member of the Policy Planning Staff.

The Constitution and the World Conference
The Stanford Constitutional Law Center hosted a special two-day conference titled “The Constitution and the World” from Thursday, October 27 to Friday, October 28, 2011. Featured speakers included Hoover fellows Michael McConnell, Peter Berkowitz, Stephen Krasner and Kiron Skinner, who addressed topics including the reach of constitutional rights outside US territory, the potential effect of treaties on constitutional structure and rights, and the effect of globalization and international institutions on sovereignty.
