Silas Palmer Fellow Brooks Marmon Explores African Decolonisation

My PhD project investigates how political changes throughout Africa, particularly the rise of liberation movements across the continent, influenced and stimulated domestic political activities across political and racial divides in Southern Rhodesia (colonial Zimbabwe) in the ‘wind of change’ period (1950s – 60s) during which most African colonies became independent nations.

In a targeted study of children who are, on average, behind their peers at age four and further behind by 1st grade, Robert C. Pianta, professor of education at the University of Virginia, found that learning gaps can be eliminated for children in high-quality classrooms who receive strong instructional and emotional support from teachers.
