About

Brandon Kist is a visiting fellow at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution. His current policy interests are focused on US foreign policy and rebuilding competence in American government.

Previously, Kist was the special assistant to the Covid Crisis Group, where he was a researcher and editor for Lessons from the Covid War, an investigative report published by PublicAffairs in April 2023.

Kist was a Brent Scowcroft Fellow at the Aspen Strategy Group, working to coordinate the Aspen Ministers Forum and the ASG Summer Workshop. He also served as a researcher for Rework America, the Markle Foundation’s economic future initiative. Earlier, he worked at the University of Virginia to produce The Modern World: Global History since 1760, the first massive open online course offered by UVA on the Coursera platform.

In addition to his policy work, Kist also serves as a consultant to several small businesses. He holds a BA in government from the University of Virginia.
