Colonel Masaki Oyama is a national fellow for the academic year 2014-15 at the Hoover Institution. He is a member of the Japan Air Self Defense Force (JASDF). He graduated from the School of International Relations of the University of Shizuoka. He is also received Master degree from the Air Command and Staff College, Air University, USAF. His military tours include flying F-4EJ fighter aircraft in Naha Air Force Base, Okinawa. Through his staff assignments at Joint and Air Staff Office, Ministry of Defense, he has conducted Joint/Bilateral Operation with US Forces, Defense Planning/Policies Division, and Chief of Administrative section of the Air Power Research Center.  He also served as a vice-counsellor, National Security and Crisis Management Section of the Cabinet Secretariat from 2012 to 2014. His research area is JSDF options to address future security risks in the Northeast Asia.
