During the Cold War, American grand strategy was relatively clear: defeat Communism and the Soviet Union's global aspirations. Today's great power competition presents a different set of challenges. Is the United States pursuing a coherent grand strategy? Is it the right one? And if--as is generally assumed--China poses the main challenge, what are the implications for security concerns elsewhere, such as in the Middle East, but Europe as well.
