The Hoover Institution at Stanford University and Koç University will host Challenges of Middle-Income Economies: Fall 2023 Conference Of The Working Group on the Foundations of Long-run Prosperity on October 26–27, 2023.
A robust economic literature investigates the conditions that allow high-income nations to prosper. However, many countries fall into the category of middle-income, and have reached that level of development with sets of political and economic institutions that, as a matter of scholarship, are not understood fully. What are the political and economic institutions that allow low-income countries to reach middle-income status? Do those institutions then facilitate, or frustrate, continued economic growth?
