The Hoover Institution Working Group on Intellectual Property, Innovation, and Prosperity (Hoover IP²) is pleased to announce that it is partnering with the London-based Global Competition Review to co-host GCR Live IP and Antitrust at Stanford University on May 25, 2017.
The event will be co-chaired by Stephen Haber of Hoover IP² and Stanford University and James Kress of Baker Botts. F. Scott Kieff, Commissioner at the U.S. International Trade Commission and a former Hoover fellow, will provide the keynote address. Panelists include industry practitioners, academics, and government officials.
Discussions will focus on key questions regarding the complexities of the relationship between IP and Antitrust, including but not limited to: What are the conditions under which IP facilities innovation? In what contexts does it give rise to antitrust concerns, and what is the best way to remedy such situations? Each of the four panels will address different aspects of this issue:
- “Is IP a barrier to entry or a source of innovation?” moderated by Stephen Haber
- “Do licensing-intense industries present a challenge for competition authorities around the world?” moderated by James Kress
- “Pharmaceutical pricing and public policy,” moderated by J. Mark Gidley of White & Case
- “International convergence – or lack thereof,” moderated by Jamillia Ferris of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati
