First, there was the debate about Critical Race Theory (CRT) and whether or not CRT existed in schools. As CRT was exposed to have negative baggage associated with it, educators pushing it avoided CRT and in favor of saying “equity is good,” let us try to market and sell equity. Now Coronado Unified School District (CUSD) has succumbed to yet another non-academic fad called Social Emotional Learning (SEL). Parents are just waking up to SEL.

As California Goes . . .?

with John H. Cochrane, Niall Ferguson, H. R. McMaster, Bill Whalenvia GoodFellows: Conversations From The Hoover Institution
Wednesday, September 15, 2021

Pre-COVID, California governor Gavin Newsom touted his state’s policies as “America’s coming attractions.” Does that apply to the Golden State’s recall election—its overtones of vaccine mandates, abortion rights, and championing progressive ideals setting the stage for upcoming elections? Hoover senior fellows Niall Ferguson, H. R. McMaster, and John Cochrane discuss California’s outlook and whether the pendulum currently swings left or right in America and around the globe.

James Carville, as head of Bill Clinton’s first presidential campaign, made famous the phrase “It’s the economy, stupid.” His purpose was to keep campaign workers, volunteers and probably even Bill Clinton focused on what mattered to the campaign at the time — the state of the economy. I have paraphrased this today to have us focus on what is, and what is not, important if we are to worry about inflation in our future.

After The Embarrassing Recall Results, Maybe Now California Republicans Will Wise Up

by Bill Whalenvia The Washington Post

Not so long ago in California, a criminally minded admissions counselor named Rick Singer found a “side door” into prestigious universities for wealthy parents seeking sure-thing admission for their progeny. His scam: Fake the kids’ athletic credentials, then bribe college coaches to smuggle them into the likes of Stanford University and the University of Southern California. It worked — until prosecutors figured out what was going on.
