2021 Fall Retreat

The Hoover Tower was lit up during the evenings of the Hoover Institution fall retreat on October 28 and 29, 2021.

The first day of the fall 2021 retreat featured a “fireside chat” in Hauck Auditorium between Hoover Institution director Condoleezza Rice and Wall Street Journal opinion columnist Peggy Noonan. The two discussed the state of America amidst the ongoing pandemic, and how the nation can overcome internal social and political divisions.

The fall 2021 retreat featured the first live edition of GoodFellows, the Hoover Institution's popular weekly conversation hour featuring senior fellows (left to right) John Cochrane, H.R. McMaster, and Niall Ferguson.

Senior Fellow Joshua Rauh gave a talk on how the Hoover Institution is prioritizing the delivery of policy solutions to state and local governments beginning with its Alabama Innovation Initiative.

John Taylor, the George P. Shultz Senior Fellow in Economics, gave remarks about why central banks should adhere to monetary rules as economies rebound from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Stanford University's carillonneur, Timothy Zerlang, performed a concert in the Hoover Tower. That day, The Hoover Tower's Observatory and Carillon were dedicated in memory of First Lady Lou Henry Hoover.

Morris Arnold and Nona Jean Cox Senior Fellow Amy Zegart (center) moderated a panel with the 2021-2022 class of Hoover's National Security Affairs Fellows, who represent the United States armed forces and foreign service. They spoke about their careers in defense of America and its interests, and what they hope to accomplish during their year at the institution.

Martin and Illie Anderson Senior Fellow Victor Davis Hanson gave a talk to Overseers and supporters about his new best-selling book, The Dying Citizen: How Progressive Elites, Tribalism, and Globalization Are Destroying the Idea of America.
