On Tuesday, August 6, 2013, Condoleezza Rice, the Denning Professor in Global Business and the Economy at the Graduate School of Business and the Thomas and Barbara Stephenson Senior Fellow on Public Policy at the Hoover Institution, both at Stanford University, along with Raj Shah, administrator of the United States Agency for International Development, gave a talk titled "The Implications of America’s Fiscal Health for Our Global Engagement" at the McCloskey Speaker series. The series features wide-ranging discussions on US public affairs issues, including leadership, decision making, and the strength of the national economy. The series is made possible by a generous donation from the McCloskey Family Charitable Foundation.

The conversation with Rice, Shah, and other guests was moderated by Aspen Strategy Group director Nicholas Burns. The event was held in Aspen, Colorado.

Admiral Gary Roughead, an Annenberg Distinguished Visiting Fellow at the Hoover Institution (2011–13), will speak on Wednesday, August 7, at the Aspen Strategy Group event on "The Future of American Defense."
