Carol H. Shiue was a National Fellow for the 2013-14 academic year.

She is an associate professor of economics at the University of Colorado at Boulder, an NBER research economist, a CEPR research affiliate, and a visiting faculty member at Stanford's SCID. She received a BS from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and her PhD from Yale University. She has also held visiting appointments at Princeton University, CesIfo, and the Russell Sage Foundation. Her research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation; her work has appeared in outlets such as the American Economic Review, IMF Economic Review, Journal of Economic History, and Journal of Econometrics.

Her research focuses on the economic history of long-run growth. At Hoover she will be studying issues in market development and international trade, examining the long-run impact of the West on the development of institutional forms in China beginning in the nineteenth century.
