From February 2005 to February 2006 Lieutenant Colonel Chris Starling, USMC, was the Operations Officer for Regimental Combat Team Two (RCT-2), a Marine unit charged with bringing security and stability to the far western reaches of Iraq's Al Anbar province. RCT-2 was responsible for over 30,000 square miles of Western Iraq, an area roughly the size of South Carolina, which included border regions of Syria, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia.

This seminar dissected a counter-insurgency campaign conducted in Western Iraq offering tactical and operational perspectives on events which preceeded the 2007 troop surge and the Anbar Awakening.
