Jim Coulter and David Bonderman of the private-equity group TPG started the discussion with an overview of their firm’s involvement in financial sector deals. Following this, they provided some insights into the circumstances of TPG’s 2008 investment in Washington Mutual, and the subsequent FDIC-initiated sale of Washington Mutual to JP Morgan. The speakers also offered their views on the importance of changes to the resolution procedure and the regulatory process for financial institutions. In particular, they addressed the role of and coordination amongst the various regulatory agencies.
