The calendar says that only 137 days remain until Election Day, so why not talk about the next presidential referendum after that, given that at least one party should be looking for a new standard-bearer come November 2024 (and maybe both parties, depending on what the future holds for Joe Biden)?

The Bigger Hurdle: Harris Becoming VP, Or Newsom Picking Her Successor?

by Bill Whalenvia Real Clear Politics

In politics, as in baseball, June predictions aren’t the wisest -- especially when it comes to forecasting presidential running mates. That said, Joe Biden has done a favor for those of us who engage in idle “veep” speculation. By limiting his choices to strictly double-X-chromosome, the Democrats’ nominee-in-waiting has a tapered list of options. And if recent news accounts are to be believed, at the top of said list is California Sen. Kamala Harris, who at this time in 2019 was a presidential hopeful.

On June 4, my Hoover colleague Bill Whalen interviewed me about my latest article for Hoover’s Defining Ideas, “Just Say No to State & Local Bailouts,” June 3. I had heard and seen a talk by Bill on Zoom a week earlier and was impressed with his deep knowledge of California politics. His show is titled “Area 45.”
