Chae-Han Kim was a national fellow at the Hoover Institution and was in residence from January 5 through August 15, 2009. In addition to his Hoover appointment, Kim is a professor of political science and a director of the International Affairs Institute at Hallym University, Korea. He founded and administers the DMZ Study Group.

Kim has written many articles and books, including Exploring the DMZ for Peace; Northeast Asian Community; Rationality and Irrationality of the Korean Society; and Game Theory and Inter-Korean Relations. He received the Ilsong Prize for his article “Third-Party Participation in Wars” (Journal of Conflict Resolution, 1991); the DMZ Peace Prize for his study of peace; and the Prime Minster’s Commendation for his education of unification. His five books were selected as Excellent Books by the National Academy of Sciences and the Ministry of Culture, Korea.

Kim has a BA in international relations from Seoul National University and a PhD in political science from the University of Rochester.
