Francisco Monaldi was a W. Glenn Campbell and Rita Ricardo-Campbell National Fellow for 2008–2009 at the Hoover Institution.

He is also a visiting professor of political economy at Stanford. He is the director of the Center on Energy and the Environment at Instituto de Estudios Superiores de Administración (IESA) and a professor of economics at Universidad Catolica Andres Bello in Caracas. He is an international energy consultant and a member of the board of directors of many leading Venezuelan corporations.

His research focuses on the political economy of oil. Recent publications include “The Political Economy of Oil Contract Renegotiation in Venezuela” (in Populism and Natural Resources, MIT Press, forthcoming); “The Political Economy of Oil Production in Latin America” (in Economia, Brookings Institution, fall 2008); and “Political Institutions and Policymaking in Venezuela” (in Policymaking in Latin America, Harvard, 2007).

Monaldi has a BA in economics from Universidad Católica Andrés Bello (UCAB), a MA in development economics from Yale, and a PhD in political science from Stanford.
