California Governor Gavin Newsom announced last week that he would not use executive authority to stop the state’s 7.7 percent minimum wage increase, which will take the minimum wage from its current level of $13 per hour up to $14 an hour on January 1, 2021 for businesses with more than 25 employees. For businesses with 25 or fewer employees, the minimum wage will rise to $13 per hour, which is an 8.3 percent increase.
