Kevin Caranna, a national security affairs fellow for the academic year 2025–26 at the Hoover Institution, is a special agent representing the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Since 2014, Special Agent Caranna has conducted complex investigations in counterintelligence, economic espionage, organized crime, and health care fraud. For the past five years, Caranna has been assigned to the San Francisco Division’s economic espionage squad, where he focuses his efforts on protecting America’s innovations in the microelectronics and advanced semiconductor industry.

Caranna began his FBI career in the Los Angeles Division, conducing criminal investigations into Eurasian organized crime and health care fraud.  Caranna is a certified emergency medical technician, providing medical support to FBI missions.

Prior to joining the FBI, Caranna worked in public accounting for ten years, and he is a licensed certified public accountant. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Kent State University.
