Abraham Sofaer, a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution whose work focuses on issues related to international law, terrorism, diplomacy, and national security, describes the Iron Dome missile defense system in Israel. Sofaer notes that Israel has been able protect its civilian population with the Iron Dome, which had more than four hundred interceptions and a success rate of approximately 80 percent. This first major test of the system is getting high marks for effectiveness.

Participants gather in a round-table discussion format to discuss various topics and ideas. The contributors write 750-word essays and columns that can be seen on Advancing a Free Society: The Caravan.

Estonian news reporter visits the Hoover Archives for a glance at Estonian history

On October 15, 2012, Estonian TV news reporter Neeme Raud visited the Hoover Institution Archives to learn more about the Estonian collections in the archives. A group of local and visiting Estonians accompanied him. They were given a presentation by archival specialist David Jacobs that highlighted some of the HIA's important documents pertaining to Estonian history, including photographs of the signing of the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact in 1939 that led to the Soviet annexation of the Baltic States one year later.

Fouad Ajami, a senior fellow at the Hoover Institution and cochair of the Working Group on Islamism and the International Order, discusses Egypt's role in Gaza-Israel conflict. “The Arab world is not really going to march to the tune of Hamas” Fouad notes, “In the end, the Egyptians have fought four wars with Israel and the harvest has been catastrophe, they don't want to go back to the past.”
