The Hoover Institution at Stanford University is hosting the US-PRC Maritime Crisis Game on August 9, 2023.

Please note that this event is by invitation only. If you are interested in attending, please contact Jacquelyn Schneider.

The US-PRC Maritime Crisis Game is a research study simulation that helps understand the role that advanced technology plays in how individuals make decisions during international crises. Participants are placed in a maritime crisis scenario involving the United States and China and randomly assigned a group within which they collaboratively determine a crisis response plan. Prior to starting the simulation, players are asked to complete a brief survey on views of China’s role in world affairs and the role of advanced technology in military affairs. The simulation involves two turns, each approximately 1 hour long. After each turn players are given a survey that includes biographical questions and assessment questions. Answers on the crisis response plan are used to measure the outcomes of the scenarios. This data will be used in peer-reviewed academic journal articles and public policy analysis pieces in order to understand generalizable dynamics about technology and crisis stability.
