Senator Rand Paul, a US Senator from Kentucky, joined Hoover fellows for a Leadership Forum roundtable luncheon at the Hoover Institution on Thursday, May 30.  The thoughtful exchange allowed the senator to discuss important policy issues, such as immigration reform, alternatives to the Affordable Care Act, the future of the Republican Party, the war on drugs, entitlement reform, and urban development. Hoover fellows included those with expertise in political science, taxation, economic policy, health care policy, and international affairs.

Senator Paul’s California trip also included meetings with Silicon Valley leaders and a speech on the future of the American conservative movement at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley.

Elected in 2010, Senator Rand Paul has become one of the predominant voices in Congress’s upper chamber advocating a free society and limited government.  Probably best known for his recent filibuster on US drone policy, Senator Paul has traveled the country seeking to build a broad coalition around limited government ideals.

Thursday’s luncheon was part of the Hoover Institution’s Leadership Forum program, which seeks to engage influential policy leaders with the Institution, its scholars, and its supporters.  This past year the Leadership Forum has hosted former World Bank President, Robert Zoellick, former Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich, Senator Rob Portman of Ohio, and Mayor Chuck Reed of San Jose, among others.
