The California Energy Commission and the Department of the Navy met at Stanford University's Hoover Institution to formalize a partnership to help Navy and Marine Corps installations in the state transition to renewable energy alternatives to meet California and the U.S. Department of Defense climate and energy goals.

Energy Commission Chair Robert Weisenmiller and Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Energy, Installations & Environment Dennis V. McGinn, will sign an agreement that ensures continued collaboration between the two organizations and the sharing of information and technical data on energy projects and initiatives.

The Department of the Navy is transforming how it uses energy in order to increase operational capability and flexibility. The Energy Commission, the state's primary energy policy and planning agency, has been instrumental in helping the state meet its renewable energy and greenhouse gas reduction goals.

The Hoover Institution’s Shultz-Stephenson Task Force on Energy Policy collaborates with both the Department of Navy and State of California on energy security, affordability, and environmental performance strategies. The MOU signing will be followed by a Task Force expert discussion panel, led by its co-chairman the Honorable George P. Shultz, on the energy transition challenges and opportunities that they are facing today.
